McKenzie (she/her/hers) is a mental health professional based in our Iowa City office and works with individual adults 18+. She uses an integrative approach by incorporating a bottom up (somatic techniques) and top down (talk therapy) approach to help process emotions while also emphasizing having compassion and acceptance for oneself throughout the process. She holds space for others while non-judgmentally guiding them to become more safely embodied within themselves. She works to reduce emotional suffering and increasing attuned ways of coping and thriving in others.
McKenzie’s modalities are wide-ranging including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Psychodynamic, and person-centered approach. McKenzie provides trauma-informed and neuro-informed counseling to help with self-regulation. The modalities used are based on what the client could benefit the most from; they can be either directed and solutions oriented, or indirect and more exploratory.
As a mental health counselor and certified yoga teacher, McKenzie harnesses her training and experience in both to be able to support those in her care from a holistic, empowering, and strengths-based approach.
