Kelly is a Licensed Master Social Worker in the Iowa City office who is passionate about supporting adults and teens (15+) on their healing journey. Whatever you’re currently struggling with: family or relationship issues, anxiety, depression, grief, low self-esteem, an existential or spiritual crisis, professional or creative stagnation, or simply work or school stress, she’s here to meet you where you’re at with compassion, patience, gentleness, and zero judgment while collaborating on your therapeutic goals.
Her practice is primarily psychodynamic, while incorporating elements of cognitive and behavioral therapies as needed to assist you in restructuring self-defeating patterns. Utilizing a strengths-based, person-centered approach, she comes from the belief that you are the expert in your own life and you have the capacity to overcome the problems you face.
An emphasis on the value of cultivating self-compassion is at the core of her practice. She integrates elements of mindfulness, helping you to observe your inner experience without judgment. She has an extensive background in teaching Transcendental Meditation and in the arts, and has worked with adults and children from a wide range of racial, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. She practices from a trauma-informed, intersectional, anti-oppressive and feminist lens. She’s particularly sensitive to the needs and experiences of BIPOC, LGBTQ, and gender-diverse individuals.
